Robbie Fulks - Fountains Of Wayne Hotline
I completely forgot about this 2005 song until i stumbled upon a live rendition of it on YouTube just now. Basically it’s Robbie Fulks, an alt-country artist, doing a parody/homage to Fountains of Wayne.
It’s about a country singer who got stuck when he’s trying to write a song, then called the so-called Fountains Of Wayne Hotline where musicians can get advice on how to write hook-laden tunes like FoW does. He practically dissected all of FoW’s tricks in a funny/amazing way.
Of course it makes you wonder why people didn’t just follow the formula and make the best pop songs out there. But then again FoW’s songs, shamefully, aren’t really big hits are they?
